Once upon a time, Stanley Jason Zappa turned on WKCR, heard a piece called "Wolf Whistle" performed by Andrew Cyrille and Peter Brötzmann and that was the end of that. Study with Bill Dixon and Milford Graves followed shortly there after. In the 20 years since graduation? A couple self produced recordings, a few years of reviews for Bananafish Magazine, a hand full of gigs played and witnessed that still resound, a founding role in NewTexture.com and my very own blog.. Interests include beef, chihuahuas, composting, Linux, Marxism, Orgone, Social Network Analysis, and tonality.
